Ashland Super D FAST. This race starts with 40mph down a dirt road. Super white knuckle, but seriously fun. This 12 mile race had about 1 mile of climbing and the rest down. We started at the Mt. Ashland ski area and rode to town. It took me 45 min and I took 9th in my division. As I looked at the results it was humbling to see Adam Craig win the pro div with a time of 33 min. I have a hard time wrapping my head around how that is possible. On a side note the town of Ashland is awesome. Highly recommended as a stop on a MTB road trip. I will be there next year for sure! |

Pickett's Charge! My first race on my home court! It was fun to race on a trail that I could probably ride with my eyes closed. Aside from a challenging start (50 riders and a thick cloud of dust) the ride was a blast. This was also my first top ten finish. Thanks to the rain the week before the trail were perfect. All the friends I had in the race did well and had a great time. This is one I will definitely do next year.

Post Canyon - Downhill Shuttle Day Possibly the greatest birthday present I’ve ever received. My wife graciously shuttled Steve Green, Tom Chancellor and myself up to the good stuff. The weather was gorgeous, the dirt was tacky and the smiles were big. I finally (and Steve) hit “The Barn Door”. A giant ladder drop that has scared me for the past few years. “Extended Play”, a run with gaps and a ladder table, was too much fun. We sessioned it several times and it never got old. Following the epic day we nursed our wounds and reminisced at a local Hood River brewery. Following that it was more beers and a campfire under a starry night. I don’t really know if there’s a perfect day, but this one had to be pretty close. Thanks Kate!!

Chainbreaker MTB Race This was my second race and it was sure nice to be in my hometown. The course was sweeeeeeeeet. It’s not all that often we get super fast dirt in Bend. The race was about 25 miles and I clocked a time or 2hrs 8min and came in 16th out of 38. Overall, this race was just fun. The weather was warm and the mood among all the riders was super mellow and laid back. Oh ya, I remembered to have enough water for this one. This tends to be a good idea. After Horning’s Hustle, I will never run out of water!!

Hornings Hustle MTB Race This was my first race, and I picked a leg killer for a first one. I swear this whole race was uphill. In the end I made it through, had a decent time and one hell of an appetite. This race seemed more like a personal challenge just to finish. As a rookie mistake, I ran out of water. Cramping is no fun L. Should be fun to do again next year, keep your fingers crossed for dry weather. |
